Super 14 Round 11

Bulls v Crusaders: What a game! Often a close finish can disguise a somewhat ordinary match but not in this case. The Crusaders were desperately unlucky not to win this one. They seemed to be making most of the play but the Bulls, mainly due to the kicking skills of number 10 Morne Steyn, hung in there. The lead swapped hands many times in the last 10 minutes but the Bulls had the final say. The Crusaders proved that the Bulls are beatable at home and heading into the finals this will be welcoming news for visiting teams.

Hurricanes v Reds: The Hurricanes overcame a slow start to eventually blow the Reds off the park. In an entertaining game the men in canary gold proved they are not out of contention yet. The Reds came to play and looked good in the first half but they couldn't sustain it. They tried to play their usual 'up tempo' style of game but against a determined Hurricanes outfit it came unstuck. The Hurricanes have too much talent and experience in their side not to finish in the top 4. This weekend's game against the Warratahs will decide which team goes through.

Sharks v Stormers: If only the Sharks found form earlier and won a couple of their close games. They would have been right up there fighting for a top 4 finish instead of sitting in the niddle of the table. They worked hard and were deserved winners over the Stormers. The Stormers weren't at their best and maybe have 1 eye on the semi's but take nothing away from the Sharks. The Stormers will bounce back.

Blues v Lions:
The Blues won by plenty but it was the Lions afterall. The Lions haven't won a game all season and this wasn't about to be it. The Blues up and down season is almost over and I think they will reflect on what might have been. Too many players playing out of position and subsequent changes from week to week to have any real chance in my opinion.

Brumbies v Highlanders: Disappointing for the Highlander's fans after their recent turnaround in form. They tried hard but the Brumbies looked more professional and hungry for the win. The Brumbies were playing for a place in the finals and the men from NZ's deep south were not. That, and the home ground advantage, were the difference in the end.

Warratahs v Chiefs:
The Warratahs were too strong for the Chiefs and had much more to play for resulting in an emphatic victory to the men in blue. This was one of the Warratahs better games and proved what they are capable of when they get their act together.

Cheetahs v Force: Cheetahs too good for the Force and have been showing improved form of late. On the other hand, the Force have to more consistent if the want to finish higher up on the ladder. On their day they are capable of beating almost any team but inconsistency is letting them down.
